There has been a lot of discussion lately about vitamin D and it's role in preventing and possibly treating disease. Vitamin D3 is produced by your body when your skin is exposed to sunlight. Up to 20 000 IU's in just 20 to 30 minutes of unprotected exposure. Yet the RDA for vitamin D remains at 200 IU's per day. Shouldn't it be much higher? Especially for people living in areas where sun exposure is limited. In Vancouver at this time of year we don't see the sun very much. This article will talk a little bit about what vitamin D is, what it does, and how much you should get.
